Airline Tickets and Ship Boarding Pass

Yesterday I received an email from Holland America Line that I can print on my computer our airline tickets, ship boarding pass, luggage tags and a lot of details about our South American cruise. All I had to do was just fill out the necessary information on line that Holland America required and then if the information is correct, I could print out the travel documents, I tried several times to print the documents on my new Toshiba laptop that has the latest Windows 7 program and I could not do it. I got in touch with Holland America help desk and they said that I completed every thing properly and they were able to see the PDF copies on their computer of the items that had to be printed. After some deep thinking on what was not working, I decided to see if my old computer would print the documents. It is about 8 years old and uses Windows XP operating system.

Surprise! The old computer had no problem displaying the PDF copies and printing them. So this shows us that just because we are old does not mean that we cannot get a job done well. I am happy now that my old computer saved the day by printing all our travel documents. All we have to do is wait patiently for October 16 to come to start our cruise to South America.

Visas Required for our South America trip

We will be visiting 9 countries in South America. Fortunately we only have to get visas for one of these countires and that is Brazil. This was made easy for us as the visa can be issued by the Brizilian consulate office in Toronto. The application form can be filled out on the internet and it is checked for correctness on the internet. Once a correct application is made, it is then printed and mailed to the Consulado-General do Brizil in Toronto with a passport and $106.25 certified cheque. We sent the passports, applications and certified cheques by Canada Post express priority mail with a prepaid return envelop. We mailed the package on a Friday and received our Brizilian visas and passports the following Friday. This was important to us as we must have our passports as we frequently cross the Detroit River to go over to the United States in Detroit for shopping, shows and visiting our friends. In addition we received a note from the cruise line that we cannot board the ship in New York unless we have a Brizilian visa as our trip will be terminating in Rio de Jeneiro, Brazil where we have to catch a flight back to Detroit.

August 18, 2011 update

Dorothy and I plan to take a cruise to South America on Holland America line ship - the Veendam that is leaving New York on October 16, 2011. I would like to tell you about the places that we visit and our impression of these places on this blog. I will be taking pictures and will be putting a caption on the pictures to tell you about the pictures. I believe pictures are a great way to describe a place much better that I would ever be able to do in words. If you want to view a picture in greater detail, just click on the picture and it should fill your computer screen. To return to the blog from the enlarged picture, just click on the top left hand arrow and this will return you back to the blog. I have included a map of South America and the Ports of Call that we will stopping at and making shore excursions.

If you want to see a picture in full screen, just double click the picture. If you want to continue seeing the pictures in full screen once you are in full screen, just use the arrow keys to move to the other pictures.

Dorothy and I would like you to share this trip to South America with us. The ship we are on has computer and internet facilities that will enable me to keep you up to date on where we are and what we have been doing. I hope that you enjoy this trip with us as much as we are looking forward to going on it.
